If there is root damage done to your tooth, it’s time to seriously consider getting an implant. An implant is beneficial because it includes a “replacement root”–a titanium screw is secured into your jawbone, and it fuses with that bone to become a stable part of your mouth. Additionally, an implant functions as a normal tooth that is independent from the teeth around it, whereas a bridge requires support from the teeth on either side. A bridge also does not descend into your gums, and it is not stabilized in your jawbone like an implant, which makes your gums prone to infection. When the root of your tooth is missing or damaged, finding a way to replace or repair that root is critical to maintaining the health of your mouth.
